Beneficial organisms create a web of life in your soil, a process by which one creature's actions support the health of another. Microorganisms consume dead leaves and grass fragments, producing foods for plant roots to absorb. Tiny helpful fungi gather nitrogen from the air and pass it off to plants for use in the photosynthesis process. Earthworms digest larger pieces of leaves and stems, creating nutrient-rich "castings".
